Why Kikyou?
Kikyou is a very complex and dramatic character. Just for a start, I can’t even say if she’s a villain, an antagonist or one of the good guys. I mean, it’s obvious that Kikyou haters think she’s a villain, because she hates Kagome, “gets in the middle of Kagome and Inuyasha’s relationship”, gives the Shikon shards to Naraku (who is FOR OBVIOUS REASONS the main bad guy in the story) and all that… But it has been proven that she really hates and wants to kill him with her own hands, so she could also be considered as one of the good guys… I’ll try to be impartial here and say she’s an antagonist to Kagome, but she’s not a villain, because she doesn’t want the Shikon no Tama to get stronger or anything, let alone help Naraku!Anyway, I guess I like Kikyou because she can be both, evil and kind. The goody goody kinda girls, such as Kagome, actually make me pretty sick, and Kikyou is just about the opposite of a goody goody! Kikyou is powerful and very strong despite everything that has happened to her, and I believe that alone is enough to make her admirable. She was killed at the age of seventeen and then brought back to a life of sorrow and loneliness, and yet she still finds the strength and determination to go after that bastard Naraku and make him pay for everything he did.
I understand there are loads of Kikyou haters out there and…Ok, seriously? I really CAN’T understand why people hate her so much! So sure, I have a thing for antagonists/bad guys (I’m surprised I don’t like Naraku! O__o), but Kikyou’s not as evil as some people portray her! She has a very nice and kind side, but people just can’t see it! I don’t want to make any Kikyou hater start loving her just like that (well, actually I do, but I don’t think I can do that…u.u.), but from now on, I’ll take my time to defend her!
“Kikyou is evil! She hates Kagome and wants to take Inuyasha to hell!” That’s one of the things I hear the most from Kikyou haters! And now I’m gonna prove them wrong! Kikyou is not that much evil! Sure, she hates Kagome, but that’s because she has her old soul now! If she wants to take Inuyasha to hell, it’s just because she loves him and wants to be with him! If you and your loved one had been brought apart some time ago and now you had the chance to be with him/her again, wouldn’t you want to take this chance? Wouldn’t you like to make up for the lost time? If it had been me, I’m sure I would.
“Take him to hell…sure, that’s some way to demonstrate she loves him…” Kikyou is just a lot confused. She loves and wants to be with him, but she doesn’t realize that taking him to hell might be a little selfish of her. It’s my opinion that she’s a lot confused and can’t see some things very clearly yet. C’mon, the girl was killed believing that she had been betrayed by her lover, then, as if THAT wasn’t enough, she doesn’t even have the chance to rest in peace, for she is later resurrected and forced to live inside a clay body! Would you like that to happen to you? I bet not, then give her a break! I’m pretty sure it mustn’t be easy to be brought back from the dead and see your loved one with someone else who, by the way, happens to be the one carrying your soul now!
“Then why did she have to come back? Why couldn’t she have stayed dead?” Ask Urasue, damn it! She revived Kikyou, and just because she wanted to possess and control her spiritual powers! She didn’t even think about how painful it would be for Kikyou! It’s all her fault, not Kikyou’s!!! Seriously, if you think Kikyou is selfish, then how selfish is Urasue? Because of that stupid mononoke, Kikyou belongs to none of the two worlds; she doesn’t belong to the world of the living because…well, let’s face it, she’s dead! But neither does she belong to the world of the dead, because she’s not quite dead anymore! What do you think that feels like, huh? Whatever your answer is, don’t blame it on Kikyou!!!!
“Then why doesn’t she just get over Inuyasha? Can't she see he loves someone else now?” That’s the only thing I agree on with Kikyou haters! Kikyou should really get over Inuyasha, but not to let Kagome have him, but for her own sake! Loving Inuyasha only causes her suffering, and he will probably be with Kagome in the end, so why can’t she just let him go? She should go with someone else…such as Sesshie! Mwahahah! Kikyou has to forget about Inuyasha and move on with her…erm…life… After all, she deserves to be happy, just like everybody else!
“Happy? That b****? No way!!” Yes way!!!!! She spent all her life taking care of that jewel! She even had to put her own love life (even her LIFE, actually) away just to keep doing a good job! She lost everything she had just to guard that damn thing! Do you people have no hearts??? She died, but now she’s back to life, and she just wants to seize this new opportunity and try to have a normal life! That’s all Kikyou wants, for God’s sake, and I don’t think that’s asking too much!
"She killed a monk, for goodness sake!!" Well, she did give him a warning when she erased that mantra he had, and she also game him a chance to go away when he found her controlling the Shinidama-Chuu. Besides, he tried to kill her and the only way for her to escape was killing him instead, and that's what she did! And now, talking as a law student, that's called legitimate defense and it's totally legal! Ask a lawyer if you don't believe me! :P
“Ok, fine. Prove that Kikyou is not all that evil!” Haven’t I been trying to do that all this time? -_-; OK, if you need more proof, here ya go! She goes from village to village helping whoever needs help, like hurt or sick people, and she keeps evil youkai away from those villages! And have you seen how nice she is around children? She always acts so motherly around them! Yeah, that really is veeery evil of her….-__-; It’s obvious that children like her, too! Wherever she is, they go like “Kikyou-samaaaaaaa!!!!” And just take a look at a pic of her! On most of them, she looks really sad and depressed…sniff… If that doesn't make you like or have some compassion for her, it should at least prevent you from hating her so much!
Well, that was something I just had to get off my chest! But you know what? I don’t care that much about what Kikyou haters/bashers think or say about her! Kikyou is and will always be my favorite female character from Inuyasha, and no matter what they say or do, they’ll never convince me to hate her! I don’t know, there’s just something about her past that touches me and makes me look at her good side (though her evil side is sooo cool!) And now, just for the record… KIKYOU RULES!!!!!!!! WEEEEEEEEE!!! *puts Kikyou flags all around the place* Mwah!^^
